Commencement Eligibility

   
Program Eligibility Criteria
Art, MA Students must have completed the project (ART 695).
Biology, MS Students must have completed the thesis/project or registered for the comprehensive exam. Students must have completed 45 units and have 70% of 600-level courses complete.
Business Administration (MBA) Students must have completed 7 600-level courses.
Communications, MA Students must have made substantial progress or completed the thesis/project or taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Computer Science, MS Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project.
Counseling & Guidance, MS Students must be registered for or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Criminal Justice, MA Students must have completed the thesis/project or be registered for or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Educational Administration, MA Students must have completed all coursework required for the degree except for:
(1) No more than one section of EADM 628 or EADM 630 (and/or);
(2) Both capstone classes (EADM 636 and EADM 633).
English Composition, MA Students in the thesis option must have already filed or plan to file their thesis no later than the academic quarter immediately following the commencement ceremony (Winter Quarter for the December ceremony, Summer Quarter for the June ceremony). The likelihood of meeting this filing date must be confirmed by the primary reader, with whom students should discuss their plans. Students in the comprehensive examination option must be registered for or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Environmental Sciences, MS Please see graduate coordinator.
Health Services Administration, MS Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project.
Interdisciplinary Studies, MA Students must have completed the thesis/project.
Mathematics, MA Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project, successfully completed MATH 695, be currently enrolled in MATH 600 and be recommended by the Chair of their thesis committee.
National Security Studies, MA Students must be registered for the comprehensive exam.
Nursing, MS Students must have completed the thesis/project or have taken the comprehensive exam.
Psychology: General Experimental, MA Students must have defended the thesis/project by the last day to register for commencement.
Psychology: Child Development, MA Students must have completed the thesis/project or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Psychology: Clinical Counseling, MS Students must have defended the thesis/project or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Psychology: Industrial Organizational, MS Students must have successfully defended the thesis/project by the last day to register for commencement.
Public Administration (MPA) Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project or be registered for the comprehensive exam. Students must have completed 32 units and completed one 600-level course.
Rehabilitation Counseling, MA Please see graduate coordinator.
Social Sciences, MA Students must have completed the thesis/project or have registered for the comprehensive exam.
Social Work (MSW) Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project.

Education, MA:
Bilingual/Cross-Cultural Education Please see graduate coordinator.
Career and Technical Education Students must have met the graduate entrance writing requirement and be advanced to candidacy by the Office of Records. Students must have completed 48 or more units, completed the thesis/project or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Correctional and Alternative Education Please see graduate coordinator.
Curriculum and Instruction Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Environmental Education Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project.
Health Education Please see graduate coordinator.
Holistic and Integrative Education Students must have completed all coursework (with the exception of the thesis/project).
Instructional Technology Students must be advanced to candidacy and registered for EDUC 600. Students must receive approval from their first reader.
Kinesiology Students must have completed the thesis/project.
Language, Literacy and Culture Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project or be registered for the comprehensive exam. Students must have completed 48 units.
Middle Grades Please see graduate coordinator.
Reading/Language Arts Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project or be registered for the comprehensive exam. Students must have completed 44 units.
Science Education Students must have completed the thesis/project.
Special Education Students must have made substantial progress on the thesis/project per Committee Chair or be registered for or have taken and passed the comprehensive exam.
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Students must have met the first review deadline of the Graduate Studies Office for the binding of their thesis/project.
