Do You Plan to Participate in Commencement?

Please be aware of the following steps to help ensure a smooth progression toward graduation....


  1. Become classified in your program.
    • What is classified? Classified students are those who have satisfied the general requirements for admission to their master's degree program.
    • Who classifies you? The graduate coordinator/advisor of your masters' degree program.

  2. Be advanced to candidacy in your program.
    • What is advanced to candidacy? Students who have completed between 12 and 20 units toward completion of their degree. (See graduate coordinator/advisor for specific unit requirement.)
    • Who advances you? The graduate coordinator/advisor of your masters' degree program
    • How are you advanced to candidacy? A Program Plan/Plan of Study will be completed outlining the classes/requirements you must fulfill in order to complete the degree. This form is signed by you and your graduate coordinator/advisor and forwarded to Records, Registration & Evaluations

  3. File a grad check
    • What is a grad check? A graduation requirement check will identify what remaining requirements you must meet according to your Program Plan/Plan of Study on file in order to graduate. *Note: Advancement to Candidacy is needed before the grad check can be completed.
    • Where do I request a grad check? At the office of Records, Registration & Evaluations (UH-171) or online at http://rre.csusb.edu or at the Info Counter at PDC
    • When do I request a grad check? To avoid late fees, a grad check must be requested by the posted deadlines: January for Summer graduation, February for Fall graduation, May for Winter graduation and November for Spring graduation. ( NOTE : Commencement ceremonies are a voluntary exercise and are only offered in the fall and spring quarters.)
    • What are the fees to request a grad check? The initial fee to file a grad check is $25. If the grad check is filed after the deadline, an additional $15 late fee will be charged.

  4. Know the requirements you need to meet in order to be eligible to walk in commencement ceremonies
    • What do I need in order to be evaluated for eligibility? You must be advanced to candidacy and have a grad check on file.
    • How am I found eligible? Eligibility requirements are posted on the Graduate Studies website under Commencement Eligibility . Your graduate coordinator/advisor will identify your eligibility based on you having met the requirements as posted.
    • How will I be notified of my eligibility? You will receive a postcard in the mail if you are found eligible. If you are found not to be eligible, you will be mailed a letter of ineligibility.

  5. Register for Commencement Ceremonies
    • How do I register? Once you receive the postcard indicating you are eligible, you must log on to the commencement registration website called Webcomm and pay the registration fee.
    • What is the fee to participate in commencement ceremonies? A $35 fee is charged.
    • When will registration open? Webcomm will open April 3rd and close June 4th.
    • How do I get tickets? Once you have completed your registration, you will be allowed to print tickets. Please check the commencement website for ticket limits and restrictions.
