Outcomes Assessment: Back to top

ANNOUNCEMENT
OF
2006/07 INCENTIVES AND REWARDS
FOR
PARTICIPATION IN OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT

CATEGORY I. Reward and Support of Implementation of Approved Assessment Plans.
In recognition of their work, and development of a successful assessment plan, programs with an approved plan will receive a fixed dollar amount to support the basic costs of implementing their plan. Programs will receive $300 PLUS $12 for each student graduating during the academic year in which the plan is approved. This will be added to the department's baseline for the ongoing implementation of their assessment plans. Funds should be used for assessment activities.

--In order to receive these funds, programs must have their spending plan approved by the College Dean and University Outcomes Assessment Committee. Funds will be allocated to School Deans to be released when the Department/program has had its spending proposal approved, detailing how the funds will be spent. (Funds may be used for such items as the cost of mailing surveys, materials used in testing, portfolio review, duplication/storage, development of a comprehensive exam, rating forms, outside jurors, etc.)

--Programs, such as BA/BS/MBA in Business, which have a large core to assess as well several concentrations and a College-wide capstone course, will need separate procedures to be developed by the Dean and College Assessment Committee, (e.g., Accounting/Finance/Real Estate concentrations all use the same procedures and are within one department and should count as one rather than three program plans, while the Management department has absorbed the burden of developing and assessing the undergraduate major in their MGMT 490 capstone course as well as assessing the Management concentration and should be entitled to differential funding). Alternative methods and proposals for how funding will be spent need to be developed by the College and endorsed by University Assessment Committee.

--The College Dean may recommend consolidation of funding or a slightly different sliding scale if deemed more appropriate and equitable.

CATEGORY II. Incentives and Assistance for Developing, Improving, and Enhancing Assessment Plans.
This category of funding is available to those departments and programs that are still in the process of developing their assessment plans. Funds will be allocated by the University Assessment Committee for the funding of such things as:
--training of faculty in assessment techniques
    --consultants
--travel to assessment conferences and training sessions
--development and purchase of materials and needed supplies
--pilot projects testing new methods of assessment
    --experimentation, innovation
    --data base development and collection
This category will be open, competitive, and based on the highest quality proposals and demonstrated needs. Awards will be made on a university-wide basis, with no College entitled to a set share of the available funds. Proposals for experimentation and change of currently approved assessment plans will be considered in this category but must be fully justified as to why additional funding and plan revisions are needed at this time.

--Up to $2000 per proposal for an individual department/program

--Up to $5000 per proposal for proposals covering several related programs.

--Matching funding by the College Dean is encouraged and will strengthen the application.

--Group projects by more than one department/program are strongly encouraged.

Proposals must be submitted to University Assessment Committee with endorsement of Dean. (See attached proposal format below.)

(Departments are encouraged to have Assessment Committees as well.) Deans should notify AVP Kamusikiri of the names of School Coordinators and members of College Assessment Committee.

--College Coordinators and Assessment Committees should review and screen proposed assessment plans for format, content and completeness prior to sending them to the Dean and University Assessment Committee for final approval for implementation.

--Funds are available for the training of College Assessment Coordinators as a group.

--An attempt will be made to send coordinators as a team to a national conference on assessment in order to gain perspective and bring back ideas for our campus.
