Financial Support:
Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Program

$3,000 grants for economically and/or educationally disadvantaged juniors, seniors, and master's students intending to pursue Ph.D. work. The program places a special emphasis on increasing the number of CSU students who enter doctoral programs at one of the University of California institutions. Program includes support for travel to conferences and doctoral institutions--may also include additional funding for summer research project. This is a system-wide competition each spring and awards are for the following academic year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be upper division or master's degree students who are enrolled at a CSU during both the application period (Spring 2008) and at least two quarters of the following academic year (2008-2009). Applicants will be selected on the basis of three major criteria: potential for success in completing a doctoral program, probable effectiveness of the student/faculty plan, and level of economic and educational disadvantage. All applicants must be permanent residents at the time of application. Each applicant must have a faculty sponsor who will be available for the duration of the plan specified in the application.

Current or former Pre-Doctoral Scholars are not eligible to reapply. Also, students who are likely to be admitted to doctoral programs in Fall 2008 should be discouraged from applying. The program is designed for students interested in obtaining doctoral degrees. Students interested in entering professional schools to obtain professional degrees in law, medicine, dentistry or related fields are not eligible.
