Thesis/Project:
Formatting Specifications for M.S. in Computer Science Theses/Projects

For use by Dr. Keith Schubert's students only. Students writing a thesis have the option of using either the standard formatting described in A Guide to Graduate Studies or typing their thesis in the LaTex template. Students writing a project must use the standard format.

Theses in LaTex should follow the following formatting guidelines:
  1. Margins of the text at least:
    • Left margin 1.5 in.
    • Right margin 1 in.
    • Top margin 1.25 in.
    • Bottom margin 1.25 in.
    • List of Tables and Figures:
  2. Page numbers are centered on the page, 1/2-inch below the bottom of the text.
  3. Front material (Title and Signature Pages) conform to the CSUSB specifications on the Graduate Studies website as of August 2006.
  4. The Table of Contents, List of Tables and Figures, and Bibliography is automatically generated by the software.
  5. Body text is 12 point Computer Modern.
  6. Spacing is 1.5 (one and a half).
  7. Text is justified.
  8. Figures and labels are centered with no surrounding box and are labeled consecutively by chapter.
  9. Paragraphs are indented.
  10. Chapters, sections and subsections are listed by number followed by the title, centered on the page. Chapter titles are in all caps.
