Financial Support: Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Forgivable Loan Program Graduate Equity Fellowship Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Pre-Doctoral Program Student Research and Travel Grad Studies Home	Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program The Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program provides financial assistance to graduate students. The purpose of the program is to increase the pool of individuals with the qualifications, motivation, and skills to teach the diverse student body in the California State University by providing financial assistance to doctoral students who show promise of becoming strong candidates for CSU instructional faculty positions. It is a competitive program directed by the California State University but open to doctoral students across the country. Through the CDIP, the California State University offers loans and faculty sponsorship to full-time students pursuing doctoral degrees who are interested in a teaching career at a CSU campus, specifically, the program provides: Loan of up to $10,000 per year up to a total of $30,000 over a five-year period. Loan forgiveness: twenty percent of the loan is forgiven each year of full-time postdoctoral teaching at a CSU campus. Faculty advising from a CSU faculty member. The California State University is committed to the principal that maintaining the excellence of its faculty requires increasing its diversity. The CSU does not guarantee a faculty position to any participant in the CDIP. However, it is expected that upon completion of their doctoral studies, participants will be qualified to compete for CSU faculty positions. Eligibility The CDIP is open to applicants who will be new or continuing full-time students in doctoral programs at accredited universities anywhere in the United States. Applicants are not required to have attended the CSU nor to be accepted in a doctoral program at the time of their application. Employment in the California State University is also not required. Faculty Advisor Key to the success of the CDIP is the faculty advisor, a full-time tenured/tenure-track CSU faculty member. Each applicant must have a CSU faculty advisor. The advisor provides consultation and assistance to the candidate to enhance his/her academic experience and relationship to the California State University. Specifically, the advisor: Advises and supports the candidate throughout his/her doctoral study. Serves to link the candidate to the CSU and its academic departments. Recommends the candidate for teaching positions in the CSU. It is recommended that the faculty advisor and student be in the same discipline, though it is not required.
